Reddit Hints at Launch of NFT Platform With New Job Listing
Written by publisher team

It looks like Reddit is hiring engineers for a blockchain project, and this could hint at a new feature the platform is developing. Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are all the rage right now, and the social media giants are feeding on this craze by launching their own platforms — with Reddit potentially the latest in the bunch. So far we’ve seen Facebook and Twitter offer support for NFTs on their respective platforms, so it’s no surprise that Reddit is looking to fill a new role of backend engineer who will be responsible for leading the creation and adoption, and trading of token goods.

According to a Cointelegraph report, a few people discovered a job listing on recruitment platform Greenhouse, where Reddit posted an application for a Senior Backend Engineer for the NFT platform. The company appears to be recruiting people to join a team that will be working on a “blockchain-based project.”

To be more specific, it says in the job posting that Reddit wants to hire new employees who will help “design, build, and ship back-end services to millions of users to create, buy, sell, and use NFT-backed digital goods.” With this said, many believe that the company is working on its own NFT space to buy and sell non-fungible tokens and other cryptocurrencies.

Other prerequisites for the position the company is looking to fill include at least five years of hands-on experience in backend development and the ability to design and implement complex distributed systems operating under a high load.

“If there is one thing we noticed with NFTs, they also have the incredible power of creating a sense of participation and belonging,” Reddit wrote in the post. “With each new NFT project, a vibrant community of owners emerges with it. Over time, we believe this will only grow, and NFTs will play a key role in how fans support their favorite creators and communities.”

If Reddit continues to launch the NFT platform, one of OpenSea’s competitors is rumored to become the NFT marketplace – currently among the largest NFT markets today. As more social media companies enter the business, OpenSea’s dominance is expected to wane. It may be a strong contender to emerge early, but based on what is mentioned in the job ad, Reddit, for example, appears to be definitely determined to jump on the NFT hype train early.
