Voyager vs Coinbase: The Biggest Differences

Both Voyager and Coinbase offer a wide selection of cryptocurrencies, interest bonuses, and support for institutional clients. However, crypto platforms diverge in certain areas.

Voyager is best for advanced mobile crypto traders who want access to a simple user interface, low fees, and multiple account funding options. Although it does not offer as many features and products as Coinbase, it is arguably better for hoarding as it allows you to earn up to 12% interest (Coinbase only allows up to 5%).

On the other hand, Coinbase offers a wide range of products and services to individuals and businesses. These include Crypto-backed loans, wallet services, educational resources and crypto rewards, card services, and more. This exchange is a better option for beginners.

Pros and Cons of Voyager

Voyager is a mobile crypto broker that was founded in 2017. It provides low cost trading services to individuals and institutions both in the United States (excluding New Yorkers) and multiple US territories. And in terms of investment selection, it currently offers over 60 cryptocurrencies.

However, it is important to note that Voyager is not a crypto exchange; It is a mobile broker that uses routing technology to connect its clients with exchanges offering the cryptocurrencies they are looking for. This means that Voyager ultimately decides where to execute your trades.

Individuals can trade dozens of cryptocurrencies without paying a fee (although Voyager does take a “spread fee” when you execute an order at a better price than you offered). Additionally, the Voyager Interest allows you to earn up to 12% interest simply by maintaining a minimum monthly balance of certain crypto assets. This is much higher than Coinbase Rewards (it currently allows you to earn up to 5% interest).

Rewards vary by month, but you can keep up with the minimum balance requirements and monthly rewards here.

And when it comes to institutional clients, Voyager offers three options: an execution platform,

Grid and guard wing. The execution platform aims to offer the best prices to institutional clients, while the liquidity network provides access to crypto exchanges, liquidity providers and over-the-counter (OTC) desks. The custodian group provides storage and security services for crypto balances.

The Voyager mobile app is available on iOS and Android devices.

Coinbase Pros and Cons

The platform also supports more than 80 cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, ethereum, litecoin, and dogecoin, among others.

If you are a single trader, you will have a large selection of products to choose from. In addition, Coinbase offers two different types of accounts for individuals: Coinbase Standard and Coinbase Pro. While those with a Standard account can use all of the previously mentioned products, Coinbase Pro users can also take advantage of trading APIs, charting tools, real-time market data, order books, and FDIC insurance protection for up to $250,000 on USD balances.
